Welcome to Ngakonui Valley School

Ngakonui Valley School is a primary school for students in Years 0 to 8 and encompasses an attractive rural setting approx 10km outside of Taumarunui. School families enjoy the benefits of open spaces, country air and supportive and caring learning environment.

The school community greatly values the history and tradition which belongs to a school that has served its local region for over 100 years. Staff, students, parents and families foster a sense of pride in belonging to a supportive and successful school community and we work collaboratively to create strong educational futures for our students.

NVS focuses on high quality teaching and learning where literacy and numeracy remain foundational to all other activities. Our results show strong academic, sporting and cultural achievement, sustained over time. Students at NVS benefit from rich learning experiences and extra opportunities in Sport, Education Outside the Classroom and Performing Arts.

Our 2023 Equity Index number is 487. EQI numbers range from 344 to 569. A higher EQI number indicates that a school is likely to have a higher number of students facing more or greater socioeconomic barriers relative to another school.

Our team of highly skilled and committed teaching practitioners focus on raising student achievement for all learners. The school is well resourced in terms of its extensive facilities which include a swimming pool, Community Hall and huge playing areas.
